Linguine originates from Liguria in the northwestern part of Italy, almost 400 years ago. The Liguria region on the Mediterranean coastline is known as the Italian Riviera And is famous for delicious Cooking.
Linguine (pronounced “lin-GWEE-nee”) in Italian means “little tongues” because of its elliptical shape.
Spaghetti and Linguine are close cousins of Italian pasta, but there are subtle differences between the two.
- Shape: The primary difference between Linguine and spaghetti is that Linguine is a flat noodle, while spaghetti is round.
Linguine is wider than spaghetti but thinner than fettuccine.
Linguine is usually 250mm long and thin, about 3 millimetres wide. Made from durum wheat semolina. So Linguine is perfect served with seafood, such as clams, pesto sauce, and a variety of red sauces. Traditionally Linguine and pesto are a match made in heaven.
Linguine is so versatile, making thin and thick sauces taste better.
Because Linguine has a slightly larger surface area than spaghetti, it works well with thicker sauces, such as cream sauces. Also, Linguine complements seafood so well since the protein is often lighter than other meatier options.
